Hazen Names Helen Lu Senior Associate
Ms. Lu has nearly two decades of experience in hydraulic modeling for both wastewater collection systems and water distribution systems, including direct experience working with more than 50 systems worldwide and on multi-million-dollar programs for many of the nation’s largest utilities.
(ATLANTA, GA - January 20, 2020) - Hazen and Sawyer has announced the appointment of Helen Lu as Senior Associate.
Ms. Lu has nearly two decades of experience in hydraulic modeling for both wastewater collection systems and water distribution systems. She has direct experience working with more than 50 systems worldwide and demonstrates her technical expertise and leadership through a long history of successful projects, including multi-million-dollar programs for many of the nation’s largest utilities.
Ms. Lu previously spent five years at Hazen. Over the course of her career, she has served as technical lead on projects ranging from water and sewer capacity modeling, to master planning, to water quality studies. She has broad sewer modeling experience including developing hydraulic models for systems under Consent Decree (including Dekalb County, GA), CSO reduction studies for combined sewer systems (including New York City), RD II studies for separated sewer system (including Singapore), and pump station studies for pressured sewer systems.
Ms. Lu is an expert across a variety of modeling software packages, including InfoWorks (ICM/WS Pro/CS/WS), InfoSWMM/Sewer/Water, SwerGEMS/CAD, WaterGEMS/CAD, MikeUrban, and PCSWMM. She is also experienced with advanced modeling technology for real-time simulation and optimization of capital/operational solutions. Ms. Lu has trained and mentored many junior modelers, and she will provide training and mentoring to Hazen’s junior engineers.

Ms. Lu holds MS degrees in Environmental Engineering and Computer Science, both from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a BS in Environmental Engineering and a BA in Social Science and Foreign Languages, both from Taiyuan University of Technology, China.
